This is an especially great historical fiction book tfor middle school aged readers who are traveling in the Elmira, New York area near the Newtown Battlefield State Park.  Cooper lives on land that has belonged to his family for generations so has many relics from that era for him to find.  Cooper also has an active imagination which helps make this a book that students can relate to.  He can see Route 17 from his land, a highway that many people traveling through New York are familiar with.
